Favorite books read in 2023 Here’s what stood out to me of the 80+ books I read this year.  “A Memory Called Empire” by Arkady Martine This was so flippin’ good. You’re dropped almost immediately into a “who dunnit,” with a newly assigned ambassador to the Gigantic Teixcalaanli Empire. This is a rushed assignment, and Keep reading

Of the 80+ books I read this year, here are my favorite 20. FIREKEEPER’S DAUGHER by Angeline Boulley Wonderful. Devoured this in two days. Daunis’ narrative voice is so refreshing and real and hyper-intelligent and observant and clever. I loved this journey, even though this span of her life has some real grief and hardships. Another year of pandemic, another year of over 100 books read. Narrowed it down to my favorites, plus some honorable mentions. Please enjoy! “Gideon the Ninth” by Tamsyn Muir Gideon has to be my FAVORITE narrator of this year, for sure! She has such a fantastically dry and hilarious and understandably grumpy demeanor, that reading Keep reading

Holy crap! I’ve been using reading (especially gripping, escapist fiction) as a mental escape, self-care, and coping strategy the last few years, and that really ramped up in covid-19 stay-at-home pandemic times. I knew having 9 months of evenings at home (unusual for me) had increased my number of books read, but it wasn’t until Keep reading

This year featured a lot more escapist fiction as personal and national and international news was rough! That said, I still read some really amazing “Literature” novels, and some of the more escapist fiction was fantastic as well. My record keeping was more sporadic. I logged about 70 books this year, but a lot of Keep reading

Over 80 books this year, and most have been satisfying (helped along as I’ve been using escapist fiction as “self care,” an effective way to distract my brain. That means lots of fantasy, sci fi & authors I know I already love or continuing series, etc). It was also a year in which I discovered Keep reading

This was a year in which I re-read some treasured books of yesteryear, along with reading new stuff. I haven’t done much re-reading in the last 10 years, mostly because I can be overwhelmed by the vast amount of amazing books waiting to be read. But it was such a joy to return to beloved Keep reading

This was a really great year, finding myself wanting to list over half of the 66 books I read this year. But I’ll try to keep it manageable and just list the best of the best. “The Wake” by Paul Kingsnorth. Author has created his own language based upon Old English, but with changes to Keep reading

Shoot. Forgot to compile my list in January. Let’s see how much I remember about my favorite reads of 2015: “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” by Benjamin Alire Sáenz This is a gorgeous gorgeous book. The economy of phrasing makes it all the more impressive how profound and big these ideas Keep reading

2014 was a great reading year for me. Almost all of my 77 books this year were decent or better, so picking my favorites proved a harder task, as there were so many great reads. What a lovely “problem” to have. (Also, the 15 graphic novels this year really helped my book count *smile*) Here Keep reading
